A Local Routing Number is a 10-digit identifier maintained by the North American telecom system that tells the network where to actually deliver a call or text. LRN lookup uses that data to tell you exactly what kind of number you're dealing with — mobile (textable), landline (voice-only), VoIP, or invalid — before you dial or send. Important note: LRN is a telecom concept, not the bank-account routing number you write on a check; it's about phone-number routing, not money.

What's the difference between LRN lookup and a regular phone-number lookup?

A basic phone-number lookup tells you the carrier and general area; LRN lookup tells you where the number is currently routed, which is what actually determines whether it's a mobile line, a landline, or no longer in service. That distinction matters because numbers get ported between carriers and between line types all the time — a "mobile" number from a year ago might now be a landline, and vice versa. LRN gives you the live answer.

Why does it matter if a number is mobile or landline?

Two reasons: deliverability and compliance. Texting a landline at best results in a silent delivery failure and a wasted credit; at worst, it gets your sender ID flagged by carriers and your future messages blocked. Calling an invalid number wastes dialer time and depresses your connect rate.
