Frequently asked questions

What is NumberGuard?

NumberGuard is Aloware's managed service for protecting your outbound phone numbers from being labeled "Spam Likely," "Telemarketer," or blocked outright by the major US carriers. It's a combination of three things: continuous monitoring of how each of your numbers shows up across networks and devices, direct carrier negotiation when a number gets mislabeled, and proactive reputation management (CNAM registration, STIR/SHAKEN attestation, rotation of damaged numbers) to keep your overall calling program healthy. It's a white-glove service rather than a self-serve feature — Aloware's CarrierOps team handles the work, not your sales team.

What is "Spam Likely" and why do legitimate calls get flagged?

"Spam Likely" is a label the major US carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile) apply to outbound numbers their algorithms suspect are unwanted calls. The algorithms use signals like high call volume, low answer rates, short call durations, high block rates, and customer reports — and they don't distinguish between actual spam and a legitimate sales team making lots of cold calls. The result: completely lawful, compliant businesses regularly get flagged, sometimes within days of a new number going live, and answer rates collapse as the label propagates across networks. NumberGuard exists because the labeling system is broken for legitimate B2B callers, and the only fix is active management.

How does NumberGuard monitor my number reputation?

Three layers run continuously. Multi-network testing places test calls and texts across all major carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, US Cellular) to verify how your numbers display on each — clean, flagged, or somewhere in between. Spam database monitoring checks third-party reputation databases (Hiya, TrueCaller, RoboKiller, First Orion) that the carriers feed off of, so we catch problems before they reach the carrier networks. Real-time alerts notify your team and Aloware's CarrierOps the moment a flag appears, so remediation starts before the label propagates and damages your connect rates.

Why is NumberGuard separate from Aloware's main platform?

Because the work is fundamentally different from software. Aloware's main platform is product — features, dashboards, integrations, automation. NumberGuard is service — manual testing, carrier negotiation, dispute escalation, ongoing relationship management with the major US carriers. You can't ship that as a self-serve checkbox; it requires a specialized team (CarrierOps) and real human time per customer. Pricing and packaging are separate because the cost structure is different, and the customers who need this most (high-volume outbound teams) tend to want a dedicated service tier rather than a buried feature.

How long does it take to remove a "Spam Likely" label?

Typically a few business days, sometimes longer depending on which carrier flagged the number and what their current dispute queue looks like. Aloware's CarrierOps team submits the dispute on your behalf, provides the supporting documentation (business identity, STIR/SHAKEN attestation, opt-in records if relevant), and follows up through the carrier's review process. The clock starts when the flag is detected (which is what the real-time monitoring catches early); without monitoring, businesses often don't notice the label for weeks, by which point the damage is widespread and harder to undo.

How is NumberGuard different from Local Presence and Branded Calling?

Three products, three different problems. NumberGuard protects the reputation of the numbers you use — preventing and remediating spam labels. Local Presence matches your caller ID to the recipient's area code so the number looks familiar rather than foreign. Branded Calling displays your actual company name on the recipient's screen so they know exactly who's calling. High-performing outbound teams typically use all three: NumberGuard keeps the numbers from getting flagged, Local Presence makes them look familiar, Branded Calling makes them look trustworthy. They're complementary, not substitutes.

What if my numbers were already flagged before I signed up?

That's one of the most common starting points, actually — most teams come to NumberGuard because their existing numbers got flagged. The first thing Aloware's CarrierOps team does at onboarding is audit your current numbers across the major networks to identify which ones are clean, which are flagged, and which are too damaged to recover. For recoverable numbers, we file disputes immediately. For numbers that are too far gone, the recommendation is usually to rotate them out and replace with fresh, clean numbers under proper CNAM and STIR/SHAKEN attestation. Either way, you start with visibility into the real state of your reputation.

Is there a contract or long-term commitment?

No long-term contract required. NumberGuard offers two formats: ongoing monthly monitoring — continuous protection with proactive flagging, alerting, and remediation included — and one-time audits — a point-in-time assessment of your current number health with recommended fixes. Most high-volume outbound teams choose monthly because reputation damage is continuous (new flags can appear any week); audits suit businesses that want a baseline check before deciding whether they need ongoing service.

Is NumberGuard worth the investment?

The math usually shouts yes for high-volume outbound teams. Industry research consistently shows that 50%+ of consumers ignore unknown numbers, and once a number gets flagged as "Spam Likely," answer rates can drop another 50–80% on top of that. If your sales team makes 1,000 cold calls a day and your answer rate falls from 15% to 5% because of bad number reputation, that's 100 fewer conversations a day — at typical SDR economics, easily $50K–$100K+ in pipeline impact per month. NumberGuard pays for itself the first time it catches a flagged number before connect rates collapse.

Who handles the carrier relationships and disputes — me or Aloware?

Aloware's CarrierOps team handles everything carrier-side. You don't need to maintain relationships with AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, or the third-party reputation databases (Hiya, TrueCaller, First Orion). When a number gets flagged, you don't fill out forms or wait on hold with a carrier's escalations desk — our team does that work on your behalf, with the supporting documentation, dispute templates, and escalation paths already in place. For most businesses this is the actual reason to buy NumberGuard: outsourcing the carrier relationship management that none of your sales or RevOps team wants to do (or would be good at).
